Maria Sharapova vs. Irina Begu
First round match of a WTA Tour event in Madrid that is the first tournament in the history of tennis to be played on blue clay. So a very special event but at the same time players can hardly know what to expect from the surface. Here we have a young player from Romania Irina Camelia Begu and top star of the WTA Tour in person of Maria Sharapova from Russia. Maria Sharapova is playing some great tennis this year and is probably the second most successful player of the season (just behind Victoria Azarenka) and also holds the same position in the WTA Tour ranking. Clay is probably the worst surface for Sharapova but she is still reaching the last rounds on regular basis and had imposant 12-2 record on the dirt in 2011 and won the tournament in Stuttgart this year. Irina Camelia Begu is one of the up-and-coming Romanian players and the one who is capable of playing good tennis on red clay and holds very good record on the dirt in last 12 months including runner-up finishes in Marbella and Budapest. Bookmakers are expecting Sharapova to blow Begu off the court but she is well capable of winning some games and make it at least a bit closer match. For these reason Begu with 7 games advantage is our next tennis pick.
